Major plant expansion increases precast production in Dayton, Ohio
In hopes strengthening the partnerships between the company and its clients, Pete DeLay, President and CEO of Sherman-Dixie, has sought to expand the company’s services to include production of a wide range of custom precast structures. This allows Sherman-Dixie to guarantee the quality of all concrete structures provided for a specific job. This commitment to product excellence led to Sherman-Dixie’s acquisition, renovation, and expansion of an existing precast facility in Dayton, Ohio.
Since its acquisition in 2004, Sherman-Dixie has more than doubled the size of the Dayton, Ohio precast facility. Furthermore, by working with existing personnel and investing millions in renovations and updates, Sherman-Dixie has significantly improved product quality, plant efficiency, and employee morale. All new equipment and management have resulted in consistent product excellence and a safe, well-managed workplace. As Pete DeLay explains, “Both product quality and happiness of plant employees have turned 180 degrees from the previous management.” In 2004, facility employees voted the union out of their contracts 36 to 2.
Sherman-Dixie believes in providing a common service uncommonly well. The company is committed to making the best concrete pipe and precast products in the market, and the Dayton, Ohio renovations and expansions are allowing Sherman-Dixie to continue to do just that.
